Rong Hui Spa, located in the mountainous area of Chongqing, was designed, drawing on the 3 Gorges area as inspiration. My initial sketch, showing the typical mountainous terrain, with the river meandering through it, was simplified into a modular steel plate construction, as an interpretation of the mountains and also for ease of construction. However the client preferred the more realistic look and feeling of real stone cliffs.

The Bath Boat illustration at the beginning set in the exact terrain drew on the Chinese local tradition, which was then explored with the large monolithic polished granite boat shaped reception desk.

bronze sculptures were planned for the private garden areas and as a statement on the exterior entrance foyer. Many references to the unique terrain (like paper sculpture mural) as a background to health drink bar reinforced the overall ambiance being created.
